Above or below average snow pack and late season storms can add to the variability of the season. Approximate dates of opening and general trail conditions are presented for reference only. 3-15   Glacier National Park advance permits may be reserved online

4-15   Olympic National Park advance permits may be reserved online

4-29     North Cascades National Park advance permits may be reserved online

5-15   Estimated opening date for SR-20. The North Cascades Highway may reopen between 4-15 and 6-1, depending on snow conditions

5-01   PNTA begins shipping printed map orders

5-15   PNTA seasonal trail crews begin maintaining lower elevation trails

5-15   Glacier National Park begins installing seasonal bridges 

6-15   Most backcountry campgrounds in Glacier National Park typically open for the season

6-15   PNTA begins log-out work in the Pasayten Wilderness and other high country areas 

7-1     Most of the PNT in Glacier National Park becomes snow free in average snow year. Snow and snow hazards may linger on high mountain passes. The prime season for westbound thru-hiking typically begins.

7-15   Most of the PNT in Olympic National Park becomes snow free in an average snow year. Snow and snow hazards may linger on high elevation trails. The prime season for eastbound thru-hiking typically begins.

8-1     High flowing water at the Rainbow and Swift Creek crossings (WEBO mile 822) has typically subsided

9-15   Glacier National Park typically begins removing seasonal bridges

10-1    Risk of snow storms increases in high elevation areas, bears are very active, many parks shift to winter operations
