Are you a member of an organized group interested in volunteer service?
Planning and organizing a service opportunity for a large group can be challenging. Our team can create a custom trail work party on the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail designed around your group’s specific needs.
In addition to hosting dozens of fun public volunteer events, we also have a great time working with groups to provide custom opportunities for their staff, students, or members!
Student and
Affinity Groups
The West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science partnered with the PNTA to create an unforgettable outdoor service learning trip for the class of 2023.
WMAES students have a 62-acre outdoor classroom to explore and expand their love of learning. In May 2023, they had the opportunity to explore the 1,724,229-acre Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest while working in service to the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail.
Over the course of the week, ten high school students and their instructors camped out on the shores of Baker Lake. Student volunteers learned the basic principles of trail maintenance and helped service nearly five miles of the PNT!
Students helped keep the Swift Creek, Baker Lake, and Baker River Trails in shape for visitors and participated in projects that will help protect water quality in the area.
“… I was able to go to an interesting and exciting place and make new memories. These memories included helping the Pacific Northwest Trail Association with trail maintenance like clearing off weeds and clearing out culverts to make sure that the trails stay in good condition for many years to come. I also had many personal experiences with the environment that I will cherish forever, as well as the memories I made with my friends. I will appreciate this opportunity that was given to me for the rest of my life and thank you for the contributions that allowed me to have this experience.” – Anonymous, WMAES high school student, class of 2023

The Boeing Employees Alpine Society sought an all-inclusive event location and a partner that could accommodate larger groups of members.
Since 2022, BOEALPS members have journeyed north to the PNT to fulfill the service stewardship requirements of their alpine program. BOEALPS offers a year-round program of climbing and social activities for members, as well as basic and advanced mountaineering courses each spring.
In 2023, over 50 participants gave service to the PNT over the National Trails Day weekend. By establishing a basecamp at the Baker Lake Recreation Area, members could enjoy group camping facilities, volunteer, and access popular climbing routes on Mt Baker.
Conservation Groups
The Okanogan Highlands Alliance works to steward the Lost Lake Wetland and Wildlife Preserve to protect the habitats that will sustain the unique and diverse species found in the Okanogan Highlands. OHA members also tend hiking trails on the preserve that provide educational opportunities with interpretive signs and information.
In September 2023, OHA partnered with the PNTA to co host a private trail stewardship event on nearby public lands. Together both organizations worked to restore a neglected lakeside trail on public lands adjacent to the Pacific Northwest Trail.
The PNTA supported the day-long event with experienced field staff, tools, PPE, and technical guidance. Working together, volunteers were able to restore the trail corridor by clearing overgrown brush and packing out litter.
By collaborating with the trail professionals at PNTA, OHA volunteers felt empowered to further develop their trail stewardship skills and take on new projects. Not only do OHA members volunteer on the Lost Lake Wetland and Wildlife Preserve, many also help steward hiking trails across the region.
Volunteer on a National Scenic Trail
Unique Locations
Head north to find remote, uncrowded, and spectacular landscapes. Get outdoors and out of service so participants will focus on the retreat not their screens. Make it a day trip or a whole weekend and camp out under the stars.
Your Event, Our Support
Your team brings the energy, we provide professional event planning, supervision and trainingso your crew can work safely and thrive outdoors. We are ready to outfit your crew with tools, a gear library, and personal protective equipment too. No experience is required to have a fun and rewarding service experience.
Shape a Legacy
Give your group the opportunity to shape the future of a young national scenic trail. Help maintain the 1200-mile trail system for visitors today or help build trail structures that will last a lifetime.
