COVID-19 Updates and the PNTA

As is the case around much of the world, confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Washington, Idaho and Montana—including some PNT trailside communities. The president has declared a national emergency and has joined many local officials in recommending that all non-essential gatherings of ten or more people be postponed to help slow the spread of the virus.

Out of a sense of responsibility and concern for public health and safety, the Pacific Northwest Trail Association has canceled and/or postponed all in-person PNTA events scheduled through June 1st.

To the best of our ability, our staff will continue to remain responsive to the needs of our community and partners during these challenging times. While we will continue to be happy to assist you by phone or email, please note that PNTA headquarters in Sedro-Woolley will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Typically, the prime season for recreating and maintaining the Pacific Northwest Trail does not begin until the trail becomes snow free in July. The Association will continue to monitor the situation closely, and will issue new updates about the 2020 season after May 1st.

We appreciate the support of our community during this time and remain cautiously optimistic that our youth service programs and volunteer events—and your PNT adventures—will not be adversely affected later this summer.

We also recognize the hardship created by the crisis however, and understand that some members of our community may choose to postpone their trips on the PNT this year. Those who have placed pre-orders of the 2020 edition of the PNTA mapset may request refunds and cancel their orders, now until June 1st.

Thank you for doing your part to limit the spread of COVID-19, and for your continued support and understanding. Together, we can help protect the PNT experience for the benefit of generations to come.
