Project Description

Are you interested in group hikes and learning how trails are made? Join us at Sherman TR 012 for a fun and easy day of outdoor learning!

At this Trail Eyes 101 event, volunteers will receive training in basic trail concepts and engage in hands-on learning as we restore a short section of this trail to spec. We will cover core safety principles for trail workers, introduce basic trail anatomy and mechanics, and demonstrate tread maintenance techniques.

Our outdoor classroom for the day is Sherman Trail: an essential feeder trail that accesses the PNT in the Kettle River Range, a quick drive east of Republic. We will begin with a short hike (less than 1.5 mi) at a comfortable pace, pausing to discuss what we see along the way, then engage in light trail work to practice our new skills.

This is the one of the shortest hikes up to the crest of the gorgeous Kettle River Range. We’ll be sure to take time to enjoy the day strolling beneath the trees, bathing in the fresh forest air that babbles down mountain streams, and taking in the views of the Okanogan Highlands to the west.

No experience necessary; the PNTA provides tools and PPE. See Resources (below) for Frequently Asked Questions and daypack recommendations.
