Project Description

The heat spell over the PNW has broken, and the cool mountain air is calling! Who wants to go for a hike or ride on Mount Bonaparte in the Okanogan Highlands east of Tonasket?

What if hiking or riding a trail could also be a form of community service? It can! Your day trip could help a trail crew restore Fourth of July Ridge TR 307!

PNTA crews serve trails for 7–10 days at a time. You can help them direct more time and energy to the work itself by helping to pack in gear or supplies nearer to their worksite.

For this trip we need volunteers who are willing to load their backpack with a canister of food supplies and ruck it up to 3.75 miles to a spikecamp on the side of Mount Bonaparte, a roughly 2.25-hour hike one-way.

Each canister contains roughly 15-lbs of food (18-lbs total wt). However, carrying any amount you are comfortable with would be a big help and could save this crew from making return trips to the trailhead for supplies.

Ideally, folks would hike out with the crew (or shortly behind them) on Sunday morning, July 28th. However, if someone were available to carry resupplies in another day (e.g., Tuesday), we may be able to coordinate with on you that!

We could also use help carrying empty canisters back to the trailhead on Thursday or Friday, Aug1–2.
