Project Description

Help maintain the PNT through the gorgeous Salmo-Priest Wilderness. We will work our way northbound from Pass Creek Pass on the Shedroof Divide TR 512.

Volunteer sawyers will take turns pulling on a two-person crosscut saw to buck logs that have fallen across the PNT. Volunteer “swampers” will follow behind saw teams, pausing to move freshly cut log rounds and branches from the trail. There will also opportunities to prune branches and brush along the way.

Most of the Shedroof Divide is hard to access. This work party has an important mission: to clear a four mile long stretch of the trail that is the easiest to access. This will free up pro crews to maintain harder to reach areas located deeper in the Wilderness.

Whether we reach our goal or not, we will surely enjoy a meaningful day together as we ramble across the spine of the Selkirk Mountains, and drink in the beautiful views all around us.

If you have prior backpacking and crosscut sawing experience, then this trip is for you! However, it isn’t strictly necessary to be experienced if you are reasonably fit and active, and up for a new adventure. The PNTA provides tools, personal protective equipment, and training. Just bring yourself, your daypack, and a thirst for a rewarding day on the trail!

See Resources (below) for Frequently Asked Questions and daypack recommendations.

Other Ways to Volunteer

If trail work is not your thing but you would still like to be part of the fun, we would welcome volunteers who can serve as a Tailgate Host. Help prepare food at a PNTA basecamp, and greet volunteers with a warm meal at the end of a long day in the mountains.
